collages & drawings with people

People can be seen as being made of different kinds of stuff.  They're certainly no more "about one strong, central unifying thing" than these pictures are.  Way less, I'm sure.

A single gesture of witnessing - a sloppy, jotted notation: "I saw something, I was here" - is hardly enough to do justice to even one second of a human being.   But a number of subsequent moments of attention - even minimal, light, playful acknowledgments - can accrete into an artifact that says a little something about humanity.

As long as I can resist smoothing the image out to fit a traditional fiction of oneness.

We probably don't "have" our complexity at any one moment either.
